Christian wins the Ruth Rendell Short Story Award

May 8, 2012

InterAct are delighted to announce that the winner of the 2012 Ruth Rendell Short Story competition is Christian Cook with his story Facing East.

Baroness Rendell presented the award to Christian on Tuesday 8th May at a ceremony held at the St Bride Foundation near Fleet Street. Also highly commended were Dorothy Moir’s story Under Her Pillow in third place and Maeve Henry’s story Saturday Always The Same in second place.

After the speeches, we were given a tour of the print room and Christian pressed the first line of his winning story on one of the printing presses.

The standard of entries for the competition was very high, so many congratulations to the three shortlisted authors. The challenge was to write a piece in any genre in no more than 100 words. As the winner, Christian will receive £1000 and will be commissioned to write four further stories for InterAct Reading Service over the course of one year.
